Drawing skills are painting skills. Whether your style and approach is impressionistic, realistic, comic, naive, expressive – or anything else – you will grow by honing your drawing skills.
This course takes artists through the following essential skills and concepts; proportion and placement, perspective, construction, value and light effect, concentrating values, turning form, edges and texture, and composition. Each class begins with a slide talk that illustrates the concept through different artistic movements and media, then Sarah will provide a short demo of the exercise designed to practice the skill. Students will then spend a time drawing (or painting) with 1-1 feedback from Sarah. Each lesson builds on the previous lesson. Students will be given free access to recorded version of Sarah’s slide talks.
Non-members: $400 (may receive a 0%, 10%, 15% or 20% discount based on the student’s membership level.)

Sarah Burns is an observation-based oil painter working in the European tradition. For over two decades, Sarah has painted timeless subjects that include Figure, Still Life, and Landscape, while exploring her personal and cultural history. Just like she preserves a record of her subjects in her work, her paintings are physically able to stand the test of time using traditional methods and materials.
